Born in Romania and raised near Frankfurt, Gerd Janson came of age during the early boom of dance music in Germany. Immersed in club and rave culture, he began collecting records and eventually DJing, but first made his mark as a music journalist, writing for magazines such as Groove Magazine and Spex Magazine. While still at university, he founded Running Back Records, which has since become one of the scene’s most respected labels, known for its sharp curation and genre-spanning approach. Alongside his work as a label head, Janson has built a strong reputation as a DJ. Since 2000 he has held a long-running residency at Robert Johnson with Thomas Hammann. With his deep musical knowledge and versatile selections, he now tours internationally, playing clubs and festivals around the world while maintaining a reputation for joyful, dancefloor-focused sets.
